Club ratings are ratings that are tracked within STTC. You gain or lose ratings points based on results of the matches you play against other club members each night. The idea is that club ratings give a general idea of how well players are doing against each other. Players who win consistently and don't get upset often will tend to move up in the rankings. The ranges and points gained/lost are a modified scale based on the USATT ratings table. For example, if a player rated 1300 beats a player rated 1120 (a ratings difference of 180), then the player who won gains 3 points and the player who lost loses 3 points; this is an example of an expected result, where the higher rated player wins. The winner of an upset match, in which the lower rated player wins, can gain a higher amount of points. As with any match, the loser loses the same amount of points that the winner gained. For example, if a player rated 1000 beats a player rated 1125 (a ratings difference of 125), then the (lower rated) player who won gains 22 points and the player who lost loses 22 points. It's important to write down all your match results on the match sheet because after each night of play we: collect all the match results, calculate the new ratings as soon as possible, then update the main STTC Club Ratings article, which appears on the right side of the pages on this site. Note that the results of only the first match between any two players counts towards ratings (though you are free to play your favorite sparring partner as much as you like!). Previous ratings are then archived under the Club Ratings category.
