Hillsboro 2007 Spring Table Tennis Open PDF Print E-mail

Sonny Henderson of Peoria defeated Tim Aikey of Burlington, VT to win the Hillsboro Table Tennis Open Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Henderson became the fifth player to win the tournament in its 18-year history. In addition to Plunkett and Goertz, Bill Franks of Springfield, now retired, has won three, and Mark Mathews of Hillsboro has one Hillsboro Open championship.
 
The tournament was sponsored by The Journal-News.

In doubles, Aikey and Goertz teamed up to beat Brad Kendle and Johnny Satterlee, both of Taylorville, 3-0 for the championship.  Aikey and Goertz beat Timothy Tonn and Robert Hemingway, both of Charleston, 3-0 in one semifinal, while Kendle and Satterlee beat Mathews and Mike Meier, both of Hillsboro, 3-0 in the other.

In Class B singles it was John Miller of Harvel over Chad Kent of Peoria 3-0 for the championship. Miller advanced to the final bybeating Roger Mansholt of Gillespie 3-0, while Kent defeated Huzefa Gulamhusein, also of Peoria, 3-0 in the other semi.

The Class C champion was Tavis Raburn of Collinsville, who defeated Shane Griffin of Hillsboro 3-0 for the title. Raburn beat Robert Oylerof Taylorville 3-0 to win his semifinal, while Griffin advanced by beating Clint Luckett of Hillsboro.
