STTC member Jim Bogue recently traveled to the San Francisco Bay Area to compete in the 2009 Summer National Senior Games in the table tennis event. (official table tennis results) Here is Jim's recap of his experience at the tournament:
Thursday morning was practice and my partner did not show up for that. The doubles competition started at Noon. My partner did show up and we ended up 0-2 in a three-team round robin. There were three round robin groups: the top three played for the first three places, the next three for places 4 through 6, and the last three for 7th and 8th. My partner was off playing tennis and did not show up for the second phase of play; so we finished ninth out of nine doubles teams. Only the top 8 received awards. Singles began Friday morning and I was seeded fourth in my round robin group. There were 31 players in my age bracket. I was able to win my match against the third seed 3-2, which was a first for me at the Nationals. In two previous Nationals I had not won one game in competition. My competition was over but I still got in quite a few good games of practice after that. Overall it was a fun time. -Jim Bogue
