Complete round robin results (in PDF format) from the STTC 2009 Fall Open tournament are now available.

Here are a couple more good resources:

  • Table Tennis DB - An excellent database compiled for comparing rubbers, blades, and other equipment. Items are reviewed and rated by other players. (You can see that several of the rubbers available through zeropong.com rate pretty well overall.)
  • Butterfly World Newsletters
  • - download the PDF newsletters; each issue contains a detailed breakdown of a particular technique.

These have been added to our Links page. If you know of any good sites that we should include there, please let Stephen know. Happy Training!

Lastly, the Killerspin 2009 Spinvitational will be in Chicago the weekend of Dec. 26-27th. If you don't plan to play, you could just get free tickets to the event and go to Chicago to see some of the World's best in action!

Results from the STTC 2009 Fall Open tournament held on Saturday, October 17th. We had a total of 28 players in 6 events, hailing from the greater central Illinois area and even as far as Iowa, Missouri, and Wisconsin! The field was split into large round robin groups in classes A and B, so everyone was able to play lots of matches. View a few pictures from the tournament.

Thanks to the Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church for hosting the event, Rick and J for running the tournament, and all the volunteers who helped run things in the tournament and in the kitchen! A special thanks to Roberta for providing excellent food options for the players. I don't think you can find a better deal on such good food at any other tournament.

Drill Clinic tonight! Tuesday 10/20 PDF Print E-mail

Rick wants to try a one hour clinic starting tonight, for anyone wanting to brush up or learn the basics. Depending on the level of interest, he may need some help running the clinic.

The plan is to have one table for forehand - topspin, one for backhand - topspin and one for backspin. At each table the teacher will be watching technique from head to toe. If there is any interest, the clinic will go from 6:00 to 7:00.

(From Stephen) Here are a few online resources that I like:

  • about.com How to Play the Basic Strokes: The TT section on the about site has a wealth of information on the game; the basic strokes section is excellent.
  • YouTube pingskills channel: Lots of excellent videos posted by the Australian Olympic team that are well edited to include key information on executing the basic strokes. They also have a Web site: pingskills.com, but I haven't checked that out yet.
  • YouTube ttCountenance channel: High-quality videos of recent matches showcasing many elite players. The match play is edited down to show action for most of the points, so you can watch an entire match in less than 10 minutes. I highly recommend watching just the players' feet for a few matches. Footwork footwork footwork!

If you have a resource that you'd like to share, please let me know and I'll include it in this list.
