Starting next Tuesday, June 22nd, club play moves upstairs to the classrooms to make room for DAUMC's annual garage sale. Instead of entering downstairs by the gym like we normally do, use the west entrance doors, off Illini Ct & W. Governor St. We'll have space to set up a few tables total in the rooms and will continue to meet there during the regular club meeting times for the next three weeks, returning to the main gym on Tuesday, July 13th.

The Thursday clinic will meet as scheduled this Thursday, June 17th, but after that we'll take a break for a few weeks, then resume the clinic and finish the remaining lessons when we get back into the main gym.

Please contact us if you have any questions.

Bradley University / Richland Bridge SDA Table Tennis Open Results, Sunday May 16th

Congrats to all the STTC players (Cron, Peter, Phillip, Robert, and Stephen) for representing our club well at the Bradley University/Richland Bridge SDA tournament in Peoria/Chillicothe run by Janet Szeto and Sonny Henderson—a few of us took home trophies!

Peter won the Juniors event; Robert took 2nd place in Class B Singles; Stephen took 1st place in Class A Singles and 1st place in Class A Doubles (he was fortunate to pick up Sonny Henderson as a partner!).

Other results: Gene Szeto beat Boomer Sekiguchi in the top class, Open Singles final; I believe Sonny Henderson beat John Wang in the Seniors Singles final; the pastor of the Richland Bridge SDA church, Rod, won Class B Singles; not sure about the Class B Doubles results.

This is a nice tournament where you can see—and potentially play—many good players in the 1500-2000+ range, and if you opt to enter in a class above yours, you can play plenty of matches for a reasonable price. If you haven't gone to it yet, definitely consider going next year!

We'll have a few pictures uploaded soon!

Please let Stephen know if there's incorrect information or if he forgot something.

STTC on TV!

Watch a segment about the STTC on Channel 20/WICS, our local ABC affiliate, directly following the 10 o'clock news (about 10:35pm) this Saturday night, April 24th.

As some of you already know, Channel 20 came out to our Spring Tournament to do another TV spot. They actually visited the club a second time last Tuesday the 20th to get more footage and interviews. They said the video and other club information will also be viewable online. We'll get the link out to everyone as soon as we get it!

Peoria Tournament Next Month

The Peoria/Bradley table tennis club is hosting a tournament on Sunday, May 16th. Rick says that this is a close and cheap way to get to a tournament where you'll see several players above a 2000 rating.

The events are Singles (Open, A, and B classes); A-Doubles; B-Doubles (U-3200 combined ratings); Seniors; and Juniors. A nice option in this tournament is that A/B bracket players may also sign up to play in 2 Singles events—one at his/her bracket and another above his/her bracket.

Here are the results from the STTC 2010 Spring Open tournament held on Saturday, April 10th. We had a total of 26 players in 7 events, from cities all across the greater central Illinois area and even as far as Indiana!

Thanks to the Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church for hosting the event, Rick Goertz and J Rosse for organizing the tournament, and all the volunteers who helped run things in the tournament and in the kitchen! A special thanks to Sheryl White for doing a great job in the kitchen and to J for making everything run smoothly at the scorer's table.

Below are the crossover final results; complete detailed round robin results (in PDF format), as well as pictures, will be available soon. Also, a reporter from the local news station was at the tournament; he shot video of the matches and interviewed a few people about the club and the tournament. He'll contact Rick when the video segment is posted online! We'll be sure to add a link to it here.

Congratulations again to all the players who took home prizes. We hope to see you all again at our Fall Open, if you don't stop by to play sooner!
